Piper guineense otherwise known as Iyere by the Youoba people and Uziza by the Igbo people of Nigeria is a West African species of Piper. This plant has preservative and antioxidant properties, and its seeds and leaves are widely used in West African Traditional medicines. The dried leaves (Ewe Iyere) are a spice in the popular Nigerian pepper soup.
