
The goat weed plant otherwise known as Apasa by the Yourba people of Nigeria is a widespread plant in West Africa. This annual herb with shallow, fibrous roots has great medicinal value. The extract from the whole plant and the leaves are used in treating many different disease conditions such as wound bleeding, measles in children, and female infertility. The leaf juice can be applied to stop bleeding in wounds, through the process of decoction, the whole Apasa plant can be used to bath babies to prevent measles. The maceration of the leaves with the fruit juice of orombo wewe is used to treat female infertility.
